Orangutan Protection Foundation

Orangutan Protection Foundation works to achieve conservation of orangutan species and their rainforest habitat in Indonesia and Malasia in partnership with local communities and organisation.

Founded 2011

  • Mission statement

Orangutan Protection Foundation (OPF) aims at protection of orangutans and re-establishment of new self-sufficient wild orangutan population.

OPF works in close collaboration with local communities and organisations. OPF believes that the threats to the orangutans and the rainforest have complex social, economic, cultural and political causes that can be tackled effectively only on grassroots level.

The main activities of OPF include funding, promotion and scaling up of local conservation projects that rescue and rehabilitate orangutans or secure sustainably managed forests for their re-introduction into the wild.

From global perspective OPF contributes towards change in unsustainable consumerism and promotion of more responsible living.

  • Aims

    Orangutan Protection Foundation aims to:

    • To promote the preservation of the wild Orangutan in its natural habitat, to promote its long-term welfare and to protect it from extinction for the public benefit.
    • To advance education for the public benefit in the study, preservation and protection of the wild Orangutan.
    • To support and promote local communities involvement in Orangutan and tropical forest conservation.
    • To support and promote alternative sustainable economic models for utilisation of productive forests in Indonesia that do not affect indigenous peoples rights or harm in any way the forest ecosystem.
