Calvert Trust Kielder
Calvert Trust Kielder
We provide adventurous outdoor activities for people of all abilities including sailing, climbing, abseiling, zip wire and king swing, at our fully accessible centre in Northumberland.
At Calvert Trust Kielder we enable people with disabilities, together with their family and friends, to achieve their potential through the challenge of outdoor adventure in the countryside. We place a great emphasis on personal development and our aim is to promote a ‘can do’ attitude and to surprise our guests with what they can accomplish. The activities we offer provide opportunities to take risks and to be independent; they are all enjoyable, encourage teamwork and raise self-esteem. Calvert Trust Kielder’s vision and mission is a response to a growing desire of many people with disabilities to live among, and share their lives with, the able-bodied community, and not to be segregated unnecessarily. It is inspired by the wish to help create a more integrated society, and envisages that the centre will embrace both disabled and able-bodied guests alike for the good of both.
Calvert Trust Kielder aims to:
- To bring positive transformation to the lives of disabled people, their families and friends, instilling greater self-esteem, stronger self-confidence and a more determined sense of purpose.
- We are not content to be just ‘good enough’ or just 'accessible enough’ for people with a disability, we aim to provide the best – an appropriate challenge for all, whatever the level of disability.
- We have created an inclusive community where able-bodied and disabled members of a family or group can develop their sports skills alongside each other, making new friends and breaking down barriers.
