Bristol Disability Equality Forum

We campaign on issues important to Disabled people, of all ages and impairments - including Elders with age-related impairments. We ensure Disabled people have a real voice and influence in the city.

Founded 2010

  • Mission statement

We are a Disabled people-led organisation based upon the core values of the social model of disability and empowerment through self-advocacy.

We seek to make the principles of equality, inclusion, independence, choice and control a reality in our everyday lives - and throughout our own organisation.

We know that social change requires a diversity of approaches from awareness-raising, to campaigning and lobbying to working others in creative problem-solving around the issues of most concern to our members. Some of the ways we achieve this include providing advice, opportunities for service providers and politicians to engage directly with (Disabled and older) service users and citizens, and community development. We recognise the need to work at a local, regional and national level, with public, voluntary and private sector organisations if we are to achieve the most for our primary beneficiaries - Disabled people who live, work or study in the greater Bristol area.

We aim to achieve the above by any lawful means and including advice, enabling consultation, representation, campaigning, training and consultancy.

Keywords underpinning our values and working: independence, respect, choice, inclusion, control, empowerment, voice and influence, self-advocacy, Disabled people-led, disability equality, pan-impairment.
