  • Mission statement

The South and Vale Carers Centre is a Health and Social Welfare charity which supports unpaid carers of all ages living in South Oxfordshire and Vale of the White Horse, including sick, disabled and vulnerable, adults, elderly, children and young people. We help carers claim Benefits for both themselves and for the person or people they care for. We provide emotional support and do a Benefits Check to make sure the carer and their family are maximising their income. We support carers with Disability Benefit Appeals and Tribunals and inform carers of their rights. We ensure that carers get appropriate help from health and social services, we let them know about small grants that are available locally and nationally, and we offer trips and activities to give both adult carers and young carers a break. Our support is confidential, personal and face to face. We visit carers in their own home so that no one is excluded from accessing our service due to illness, disability or because transport is inaccessible. The entitlement to and system of application for Disability and Carers Benefits is extremely complex and confusing, and our Outreach Workers have specialist knowledge and experience to ensure that the people we support receive the correct Benefit entitlement. With Benefit Appeals and Tribunals we help to gather and analyse supporting documentation and evidence to ensure an Appeal stands the best chance of success, and ensure a carer is not alone at their hearing.

  • Aims

The South and Vale Carers Centre aims to:

    • To make unpaid carers better off financially by maximising their household income and ensuring they are receiving their correct benefit entitlement.
    • To help both adult and young carers take a break from their caring responsibilities through the trips and activities we organise at little or no cost.
    • To ensure that all the carers we support are also being appropriately directed to other relevant service providers.
