Brighter Horizons4u Trust

Brighter Horizons4U is a confidential counselling service which provides specialised counselling for children aged between 5 – 18 years. We offer an on-site counselling service for children who need additional emotional support. We deal with all issues children face in today’s society: family breakdown bereavement, loss, bullying, stress, anxiety and anger. At Brighter Horizons we believe that all clients deserve to be listened too in a safe and non-judgemental environment. We believe by helping children and young people examine in detail their behaviour or situation can help initiate change. This will arm children with life skills for when they are faced with future challenges.

  • Mission statement

At Brighter Horizons we believe that all children deserve to be listened to in a safe and non-judgmental environment. We believe that Brighter Horizons4u are offering a unique service of bringing counselling services into schools in order to identify and assist children who may be need added emotional support. We are a Counselling organisation which consists of three qualified counsellers who have been working voluntary for Primary and Secondary schools within the Sefton area. We originally set up in response to a gap in services for children’s counselling within schools across the North West. We will be looking to extend our services to the Liverpool, Knowsley, Liverpool is ranked as the most deprived local authority area in the country and Knowsley is ranked 8th. Child poverty in Liverpool and Knowsley is particularly high. Liverpool has 3 wards were children living in poverty is more than 90% (7 over 80%) and 5 Knowsley wards have more than 80% children living in poverty (Indices of Multiple Deprivation Affecting Children 2007, Department for Communities and Local Government).
We will demonstrate how great the need for this service is within schools and how it can be beneficial in supporting both the pupils and schools. We strongly believe that by providing a children’s and parents counselling service within schools and children’s centres in the North West will give children and young people the tools to deal with problems, helping to aid their coping mechanisms.

We will monitor the aims, progress and outcomes obviously the service is confidential and we protect the identity of the children and families and the subjects on which they are counselled. However, we will record the number of children and their ages. We will seek feedback from the school about changes in attendance and behaviour of children who have undertaken counselling.
