Tourism Concern fights exploitation in tourism. We are an independent, non-industry based, UK charity, with members and supporters from around the world. We work with partners in over 20 destination countries to ensure that tourism always benefits local people.
A world free from exploitation in which all parties involved in tourism benefit equally and in which relationships between industry, tourists and host communities are based on trust and respect.
Tourism Concern's mission is to ensure that tourism always benefits local people.
Tourism Concern is a non-industry based organisation and strongly believes that its independence is vital to its role.
We ensure that we listen to the opinions and perspectives of our partners in destination communities. Our campaigns are often initiated when communities and organisations come to us with requests for help.
Shared values and vision
We strongly believe in working with organisations that share our values and vision and we strive to work towards common goals throughout the collaborative process.
We believe that all people have the right to participate in all decision-making that affects them both internally and in the work we do.
We strive to adopt low impact "green" policies and practices and to purchase and promote fair trade products.
Tourism Concern aims to:
- To influence NGOs and governments in the way tourism is developed
- To advise tourists how to holiday ethically
- To ensure that tourism always benefits local people.
- To empower local civil society organisations to participate in tourism decision-making processes
- To support tour operators to improve their operations and lobby the tourism industry to behave more ethically.
