Institute of Imagination
Institute of Imagination
From the first mark on a cave wall to the first footsteps on the Moon, our greatest developments have begun with leaps of someone’s imagination.
The Institute of Imagination is creating a new kind of space for imaginations to grow. A world-class cultural destination in London that puts children at its heart. And a place for families to make, play, create and explore together.
Every child is born with the capability to imagine – bursting with curiosity, wonder and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge. But children today have less time and space than ever to flex their imaginations.
We’re creating a climate where ideas can thrive. A new way to develop future generations of makers, not just consumers. And a public space that prioritises imagination.
To bring the Institute of Imagination to life, we’re working with experts, teachers, parents and – most important of all – children. All united by the belief that imagination matters.
We are working towards creating the Institute of Imagination campus - a space like no other. Children, families and schools from London and beyond will be able to explore, experiment, make, play and create together. Through their own interests and ideas visitors will be able to explore and apply their imagination, creating their own journey and unique experience in one amazing and extraordinary environment.
Centred on the methodology of developing imagination through experimentation, play and making, the Campus will be at the heart of all the Institute of Imagination’s activities, giving scale and focus to our vision, driving research and practice. It will be the hub for our physical and digital projects, and our outreach activities including our Imagination Lab and Imagination Pods.
Institute of Imagination aims to:
- To reach out to communities across the city through workshops, events and collaborative activities with partners, particularly in locations that lack an accessible and rich cultural offer.
- To build a world class cultural space in London dedicated to children and families for them to explore, experiment, make, play and create together.
- To support children in developing the essential skills they will need for the future - including innovation, creativity, resilience and team work.
- To share best practice and to deliver and commission research that informs our own approach and that of organisations around the world.
