Artichoke Trust

Artichoke Trust was founded in 2005. Our aim is to work with artists to create extraordinary, large-scale events that appeal to the widest possible audience. We don’t believe the arts should take place only behind the closed doors of theatres or art galleries. Instead, we put on shows in unusual places: in the streets, public spaces or in the countryside.

Since 2006, Artichoke has produced several large-scale events across the country, from London to Liverpool; from light festivals to giant mechanical spiders. Nearly all our events are free to attend, and attract members of the public in thousands.

As a registered charity, we rely on grants, donations and sponsors to fund our events, and run a donors scheme called Artichoke Hearts.

  • Mission statement

Artichoke is a creative producing company which puts on extraordinary live events and sets new benchmarks for artistic imagination. Artichoke is unique; it inhabits a territory outside the mainstream, working beyond the theatre, concert hall and gallery. It aims to put on shows which, whilst every bit as ambitious and technically complex as those of the major institutions, are popular, if not populist, in nature.

  • Aims

    Artichoke Trust aims to:

    • produces large-scale, high-impact free events in public spaces.
    • produces events that set benchmarks in standards of technical production, logistical challenge, audience development and artistic vision.
    • work with the best creative minds to put on extraordinary shows that open the arts to the widest audience while challenging conventions – for we believe in the transformative power of art
    • promote the furtherance of art as we engage with the general public including families, children and young people, with a focus on those who are not regular art attenders.
