  • Mission statement

Bristol Rape Crisis (BRC) is a service for women who have experienced any form of sexual violence. The service aims to support women through listening, believing and providing information and advocacy.

BRC is a feminist organisation: this underpins both what our service is and how it is run. We listen to women and believe them, help women to name the sexual violence they have survived and support them to make their own choices.

    Our aims
    1. To relieve the trauma and distress of women and girls who have experienced any form of sexual violence, at any point in their lives, through the provision of services, support and information.
We do this in the following ways
Providing confidential women-only, women led services:
    - A telephone helpline
    - Face to face emotional support
    - Advocacy
    - Signposting

    2. To educate the public about rape and sexual violence and to raise awareness of the impacts of rape and sexual abuse on the survivor and society.
    - By providing a specialist sexual violence training course for volunteers.
    - By working in partnership with statutory and voluntary agencies to improve the range of responses and support for all women affected by rape and sexual violence, including the criminal justice system
    - Through media campaigns
    - By participating in a range of local awareness raising events
    - By participating in inter-agency forums, in order to improve practice and responses towards survivors of rape and sexual violence
