Mission statement
Wildlives specialises in treating or fostering injured or orphaned animals and birds. The work is complicated, because the eventual aim is for each of the animals to return to its natural environment, and live out its days as a wild animal. This means that they have to achieve a level of fitness and mobility in excess of that which would be sufficient for a domestic pet. Furthermore, all their treatment must take place without ‘taming’ them as, sadly, a wild animal with no fear of people is likely to be a very short-lived one. A great deal of time, effort and money is expended on each of the animals and birds. Wildlives has a “no euthanasia” policy, and no animal is put to sleep while there is any chance of a recovery. As a result of this dedication, Wildlives has a success rate far higher than that normally expected for a wildlife rescue centre.
