  • Mission statement

    Care Africa Network (CAN) exists:
    To meet the desperate need to support and develop the African cultural, family and community child care frameworks trying to cope with the unprecedented challenge of the AIDs orphan crisis. This it does by acting as catalyst, exchanging successful ideas, and culturally and technologically appropriate methods, to enable NGOs, governments and communities to be more effective in supporting extended families in meeting children’s holistic needs within their family and communities. CAN also promotes education of women and girls to empower them economically and against physical and sexual abuse and to enable them to meet the psychosocial and other needs of children. It also provide small amounts of income generating funding to enable NGOs to implement projects promoting families self-sufficiency in meeting their children’s needs for the future. Additionally, it aims to raise awareness of the needs of Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVCs) in Africa amongst donor populations, and the culturally appropriate methods of meeting these needs that require funding.

    Care Africa Network aims to:

    • To promote culturally appropriate methods of care, technological methods of food production, and economic empowerment to enable children’s holistic needs to be met within their family and community.
    • To act as catalyst, exchanging ideas and culturally appropriate methods, to enable NGOs and communities to be more effective in supporting extended families in meeting children’s holistic needs
    • To provide small amounts of income generating funding to enable NGOs to implement projects promoting families’ self-sufficiency in meeting their children’s needs for the future.
    • To raise awareness of the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in Africa amongst donor populations and the culturally appropriate methods of meeting these needs that requiring funding.
    • To meet the desperate need for initiatives to support and develop the African cultural family and community child care frameworks as a result of the magnitude of the AIDs orphan crisis
