Saddleworth Museum & Art Gallery – A Community Resource serves the local community. Opened firstly as a museum in 1962 its aim being to inspire and foster interest in the history of Saddleworth.

    Our enduring purpose is:
    • To inspire and foster interest in the history of Saddleworth, its people and landscape
    • To collect, preserve and interpret evidence of Saddleworth’s past and present.
    • To make a fitting cultural and social contribution to the Saddleworth community
    • To further interest in Saddleworth locally, regionally, nationally and worldwide

    Our Key Objectives are:
    • To collect and preserve historical material relevant to Saddleworth
    • To encourage access to collections for educational and research purposes
    • To provide displays using these collections illustrating and interpreting the history and landscape of Saddleworth.
    • To stage special exhibitions and events which supplement the semi permanent displays or which further the cultural and social aims of the Museum.
    • To work closely with schools and other local, regional, national organisations.
    • To develop the use of the Art Gallery as a multi-purpose s
